The 50-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD (Model A067) is the unprecedented, next-level ultra-telephoto zoom lens for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras. Featuring a stunning 8x zoom ratio, it provides a wide range of focal lengths that covers the standard 50mm and stretches all the way to 400mm at the ultra-telephoto end that offers an unmatched level of versatility. With of its wide 50mm starting focal length, full-body shots of subjects like wildlife can be captured in the surrounding environment. The wider end of this unique mirrorless zoom lens is particularly useful for side-line sports, wildlife and other subjects that move closer as you are shooting, allowing you to continue photographing without the need to change lenses. For spectacular results, the precise arrangement of special lens elements effectively delivers uncompromising high image quality throughout the entire 50-400mm zoom range. In spite of high resolving power and extraordinary reach, the 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 is incredibly compact with a length of just 183.4mm (7.2 in) and a light weight of 1,155g (40.7 oz). With about the same light weight and compact size of a conventional 100-400mm class zoom, it’s easy to pack and comfortable to carry all day. For superb results in a broad variety of situations, the new 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 is equipped with TAMRON’s VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism and proprietary image stabilisation mechanism VC (Vibration Compensation). These features combine with others make it possible to capture sharp images even when shooting wild birds and fast-moving sports action. Additionally, users can enjoy the world of half-macro photography with excellent close-up shooting capabilities. The MOD (Minimum Object Distance) is a scant 0.25m (9.8 in) at the 50mm end, and the maximum magnification ratio is 1:2. Also, users can customise certain functions and update the firmware via the Connector Port by using the dedicated TAMRON Lens Utility™. For this new zoom lens, TAMRON Lens Utility newly offers a “Focus Limiter” function. One of the greatest features of the 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 is its dramatically broad range of focal lengths which covers 50mm to 400mm and delivers an 8x zoom ratio. With a focal length of 50mm at the wide end, you can create images that capture the subject and also make use of the background as well as subjects that may continuously move closer and further away, such as when whale watching, shooting sports at the sidelines, and photographing animals in habitats. Users can enjoy shooting a vast variety of subjects from landscapes and wild birds to animals, sports and small groups. Despite its wide range and capabilities, the compact and lightweight zoom measures just 183.4mm (7.2 in) and weighs 1,155g (40.7 oz). The 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 was developed in pursuit of high image quality throughout the entire zoom range. The optical construction features 24 elements in 18 groups. The generous and effective use of special lens elements, including XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion), LD (Low Dispersion) and Hybrid Aspherical lens elements thoroughly controls aberrations including axial chromatic aberrations. The 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 also features BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) Coating that minimises ghosting and flare and expresses the minute details of subjects even under backlit conditions. Enjoy clear and sharp resolution to the edges of the frame, plus the soft, beautiful bokeh effects of the type that only an ultra-telephoto can create.

The 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 utilises the renowned VXD linear motor focus mechanism. This advanced AF mechanism combines class-leading speed and precision, enabling fast and accurate focusing from MOD through to infinity. What’s more, excellent focus tracking performance of moving objects makes it possible to capture sharp images even when shooting wild birds and fast sports action.

TAMRON’s proprietary VC takes the shakes out of handheld shooting
The lens is equipped with TAMRON’s proprietary VC mechanism, and effectively controls camera shake that can occur when shooting at telephoto focal lengths. It also helps reduce fuzzy pictures when shooting handheld in low-light conditions or at slower shutter speeds. Furthermore, using AI technologies, the lens chooses the appropriate compensation characteristics for videography at focal lengths of 100mm or less.

Half-macro photography with 1:2 magnification ratio from 50mm to 70mm focal length
The 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 is capable of extremely high performance when shooting close-ups, particularly for an ultra-telephoto zoom lens. Users can enjoy maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 (half-macro) shooting with an MOD of 0.25m (9.8 in) at the 50mm zoom setting and 0.27m (10.6 in) at the 70mm. Moreover, at the 400mm telephoto end the MOD is 1.5m (59.1 in), providing a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4 for dynamic shots. The unprecedented level of freedom in shooting reveals the charm of subjects more than ever, and flexible shooting options previously unseen in ultra-telephoto zooms.

“Focus Limiter” function that limits the AF focus search range has been added to the TAMRON Lens Utility
The dedicated TAMRON Lens Utility software (for PC/ for devices with AndroidTM 1 OS) developed in-house by TAMRON is compatible with the 50-400mm F4.5-6.32. Users can customise the functions and easily update the firmware3 through the lens, and by using the Mobile version, Focus Preset and A-B Focus can be operated remotely without touching the lens. Additionally, with the 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 you can select the “Focus Limiter” function that allows you to limit the focus search range of the AF. This function shortens the time taken to refocus when a subject slips out of focus and prevents focusing on obstacles in front of a subject. The function can be instantly toggled using the Focus Set Button, ensuring that you never miss an unexpected photo opportunity. The TAMRON Lens Utility can be used to customise functions based on various shooting styles for both still photography and video, thereby providing a more fulfilling shooting experience.

The arc of rotation of the zoom ring is only 75°. This enables swift adjustment to the desired focal length with minimal movement.

The Arca Swiss compatible tripod mount with quick shoe (Model A035TM, sold separately) allows you to shift quickly from handheld shooting to a tripod. The tripod mount can be easily attached and detached, allowing you to choose the best shooting method for each scene.
③ New design with improved texture and scratch resistance
Every individual part of the lens has been reexamined, right down to the fine details, resulting in a new design that updates both operability and the ergonomic considerations. The surface of the lens exterior is shiny black, much glossier than previous models. Improved abrasion resistance makes the lens harder to scratch and resists fingerprints. In addition, grip performance has been improved by increasing the number of protrusions in the striped pattern of the rubber ring.
