Class-Leading1 Compactness — Redefining the Fast-Aperture Zoom

The 20-40mm F/2.8 Di III VXD (Model A062) defies the conventional expectations for a fast-aperture standard zoom lens. While delivering a constant F2.8 aperture across the entire zoom range, it achieves a class-leading compact and lightweight design. With a length of just 86.5mm (3.4in) and weighing only 365g (12.9oz),2 the 20-40mm F2.8 offers incredible portability. Its exceptional size and weight provide the mobility you need for everything from daily snapshots and travel to dedicated creative work.

Expanding Your Creative Horizons from Ultra-Wide 20mm – A Seamless Flow to the Natural 40mm View

The 20-40mm F2.8 features a unique focal range starting at 20mm. At the 20mm ultra wide-angle end, it provides a sense of depth and scale that conventional standard zoom lenses simply cannot match, capturing the full essence of a landscape. At the same time, the range up to 40mm is ideal for everyday snapshots and portraits. When used with APS-C mirrorless cameras, it provides a full-frame equivalent of 30-60mm – offering the flexibility to handle any scene without changing lens.

Mobility and High-Speed, High-Precision AF – The Perfect Support for Video and Vlogging

The compact, lightweight design ensures exceptional handling, offering a significant advantage for video shooting. The 20-40mm F2.8 remains perfectly balanced even when mounted on camera grips or compact gimbals, making it ideal for handheld shooting and vlogging. Additionally, the 20mm focal length lets you capture the broader background while maintaining a comfortable distance for selfies. The AF drive features the VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism. This high-speed, high-precision system tracks subjects smoothly and accurately from MOD (Minimum Object Distance) to infinity, reliably following moving subjects during video shooting. Furthermore, the quietness of the linear motor allows for inconspicuous shooting in noise-sensitive environments, whether for stills or video.

* Operational sounds may be recorded in video depending on the shooting environment.

High Image Quality in a Compact Body – Powered by Specialized Lens Elements

The 20-40mm F2.8 is packed with TAMRON’s proprietary optical technologies, delivering imaging performance that defies its compact size. The optical construction features 12 elements in 11 groups. By generously incorporating specialized lens elements, including four LD (Low Dispersion), along with two GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lens elements, the 20-40mm F2.8 achieves outstanding optical performance. A key highlight is the beautiful, soft bokeh that only a fast F2.8 aperture can provide. Furthermore, the BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) Coating effectively suppresses ghosting and flare, ensuring clear and crisp images with excellent contrast.

Enhanced Convenience and Operability

– Zoom Ring Rotation Angle of 65° — Smooth Zooming with Minimal Movement
The 20-40mm F2.8 features a zoom ring rotation angle of just 65°. This allows for quick zoom adjustments with minimal movement, ensuring a smooth shooting flow without ever missing a moment.

– Enhanced Exterior Surface
Our engineers refined every structural detail to enhance usability and ergonomics. The lens exterior has a glossy black finish with improved abrasion resistance to reduce scratches and fingerprints. The material on the zoom and focus rings is also updated to offer better grip performance with deeper grooves, while the smoothly curved glossy brand ring presents a dignified, high-quality look.

Unified 67mm Filter Size
