  • SONY E

Zoom from 50mm to 300mm with a lightweight lens, covering standard zoom focal lengths.

An alternative to 70-300mm focal length lenses for mirrorless cameras.

Unconventional zoom starting from 50mm, and the lightest weight in its class1 at just 665g (23.5oz)

The 50-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD (Model A069) is a groundbreaking telephoto zoom lens that provides the same sense of size as a 70-300mm, and was created in response to feedback from users who want to “zoom out just a little more.” By starting from 50mm at the wide end (the “standard” zoom length), this new zoom lens is ideal for situations where 70mm would feel somewhat tight. This extra focal length range expands the possibilities for photographic expression while allowing photographers to work more freely for a variety of subjects and situations such as sporting events, natural landscapes, and wildlife. Unlike a conventional 4x 70-300mm, this compact 6x lens zooms from 50mm yet boasts a length of just 150mm (5.9in) and a class-leading light weight of 665g (23.5oz). Additionally, it’s equipped with TAMRON’s highly effective VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism. These features also make it a great fit for an APS-C format camera2 that tends to be smaller in size compared with a full-frame camera. With its outstanding portability and convenience, you can enjoy greater versatility and highly immersive shooting experiences.

Realise the beauty you envision with uncompromising optical performance

The 50-300mm F4.5-6.3 VC was designed in pursuit of high image quality and high-resolution performance throughout the entire zoom range. The lens has an optical construction of 19 elements in 14 groups, and a generous and effective arrangement of special lens elements, including two XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) and two LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements, that efficiently control aberrations such as chromatic aberrations. Additionally, BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) Coating suppresses ghosting and flare to let you capture every detail of your subject, even under backlit conditions. High levels of sharpness and clarity enable you to create the images you envision. Featuring smooth and rich gradation combined with beautifully soft bokeh, this new TAMRON zoom is also a great option for outdoor portrait photography when you want to blur the background to make your subject stand out.

Capture must-get moments with high-speed, high-precision AF boasting excellent moving subject tracking performance

The AF drive of the 50-300mm F4.5-6.3 VC uses TAMRON’s VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism. This AF system allows comfortable focusing from the MOD (Minimum Object Distance) through infinity with high-speed and high-precision performance that represents the highest level in TAMRON’s history. Tracking performance for moving objects is also outstanding, making it perfect for shooting subjects that move in unpredictable ways such as children engaged in sports and spectator events like baseball, rodeos, and auto racing. These features ensure you can capture once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunities without missing the shot. In addition, because the quietness offered by the linear motor system provides nearly silent operation, reducing the noise from vibration and focus driving, the lens can also be used with confidence when shooting still images or filming in quiet settings.

Achieves a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 at 50mm, offering half-macro shooting

This TAMRON zoom lens delivers excellent close-up shooting performance with an MOD of 0.22m (8.7in) for a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 at the 50mm wide end. This lets you get extremely close to subjects and enjoy half-macro shooting. Even at the 300mm telephoto end, the MOD is just 0.9m (35.4in), achieving a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.1. This feature lets you fully enjoy image compositions unique to the 50-300mm F4.5-6.3 VC and allows you to capture your subjects more creatively.

Camera: Sony α7R IV Focal length: 50mm Exposure: F4.5 1/80sec ISO 800

TAMRON’s proprietary VC mechanism for steady shooting

The 50-300mm F4.5-6.3 VC is equipped with TAMRON’s VC mechanism to effectively suppress camera shake that tends to occur when shooting in the telephoto range while capturing moving objects and during close-focusing. This outstanding stability frees you to concentrate on shooting with peace of mind. As the full-frame equivalent focal length is 75-450mm when shooting with an APS-C camera, the VC mechanism especially demonstrates its strengths on the telephoto side. The VC can also reduce the degradation of picture quality when shooting in conditions prone to camera shake, such as dimly lit interiors, moody indoor portraits, and low-light conditions such as early morning or evening landscapes. Moreover, using AI technologies at focal lengths of 100mm or less, the lens selects the appropriate compensation characteristics for videography to powerfully support the inherent high optical performance of the lens.

Compatible with TAMRON Lens Utility™ software

The 50-300mm F4.5-6.3 VC is compatible with the dedicated TAMRON Lens Utility software (for PC and Android™ 3 OS) that was developed in-house by TAMRON4. This software allows various lens and camera settings to be assigned to the Focus Set Button located on the lens. Also, the lens’ firmware5 can be updated to the latest version. In addition, when using the mobile version, functions unique to the mobile version can be operated remotely without touching the lens. Users may customize functions for various still photography and videography shooting styles, thereby providing a more personalized and fulfilling shooting experience.

Unified 67mm filter diameter

Great things come in compact packages! This lineup includes other lenses that share the same filter diameter of 67mm. Lenses in this series feature small and light designs ideal for pairing with mirrorless cameras, and the filter diameter of each lens is the same 67mm. In addition to providing excellent portability when carrying multiple lenses, costly Polarizers, ND and other filters can be used interchangeably. Plus, the hassle of looking for different-sized lens caps when switching lenses has been eliminated. In addition to outstanding optical quality, this seemingly small feature lets you enjoy the highest level of convenience across the entire lineup.

Overall lens design for user-friendly operation

Our engineers examined the structure and key parts right down to the fine details, resulting in an enhanced design that updates both operability and the ergonomic considerations. The surface of the lens exterior is shiny and glossy black. Improved abrasion resistance makes the lens harder to scratch and resists fingerprints. The rubber on the ring is also updated to have better grip performance with deeper grooves. The smoothly curved, glossy surface of the brand ring creates a dignified appearance with a design that signifies functional beauty and high quality.
